342 HYGIENE ON THE GO 740X400

Getting out as a family to experience and explore can create many life-long cherished memories, but when you’re away from home, keeping harmful germs at bay can be a challenge. Washing facilities aren’t always immediately available and some public places can be germ hotspots, but fortunately we’ve got some tips so all you need to worry about is which fun activity to do together as family!

Top tips for hygienic days out:

Keeping Clean
You might not have easy access to a toilet or clean running water, so take some Dettol Antibacterial Wipes or Hand Sanitizer with you for a quick clean up before and after lunch.

Bacteria can easily transfer between hands and frequently touched surfaces on public transport. With hundreds of people touching door handles, hand rails, seats and luggage racks every day, hand sanitizer and antibacterial personal wipes will help keep these germs at bay.

Food Safety
When the weather is warm and sunny, it’s nice to eat outside. But it’s important to make sure gems such as E.coli, Campylobacter and Salmonella don’t join the party. Once these bacteria spread, they can cause food poisoning, stomach upsets and diarrhoea.
If you’re having a barbeque or picnic, make sure you separate the raw food from the cooked and ready-to-eat food, and try not to leave it out in the sun for too long.
When sharing food, make sure there are no mucky fingers going into the bowl, as these will quickly spread germs to everyone else.

First Aid
Be prepared for the odd tumble and cuts and grazes that can occur when on days out. Take some plasters, clean cotton pads and an antiseptic cream with you. Clean any wounds with clean water and a cotton pad and put some antiseptic cream on the wound, before covering with a fresh plaster.

Animals & Farm visits
Animal farms can be great fun for the whole family, but it’s important to remember that contact with animals could carry a risk of infection. Don’t let any animals lick your face or that of your child’s and make sure they don’t kiss the animals either, however cuddly. Make sure everyone washes their hands thoroughly with soap and clean water after they’ve handled animals or been in their surroundings, especially before eating.
